Recapping Negative Foods 3d Quarter
The Quarterly Recap (34th) Edition of the Negative Foods Newsletter
Welcome to the 34th edition of the Negative Foods Newsletter! The end-of-each-quarter edition recaps what we’ve learned. Click here for the 7/9/21 recap for the first quarter of the newsletter and here for the 10/8/21 recap for the second quarter.
What did we cover in the last (approximately) three months?
The Negative Foods Manifesto. In the first edition of the newsletter’s third quarter, I declared that my Mission is to “reverse climate change by transforming the food system”, and I detailed my Code of Commitment. I highly recommend writing a manifesto!
The Gift Giving Guide for Negative Foods Eaters. Last week’s edition urges everyone to buy less stuff people don't need. This guide will help you make great gift choices.
Can People Afford Negative Foods? In this edition we dispelled the myth that high prices will keep Negative Foods from being adopted in the United States. When regenerative agriculture scales, the costs will come down and most people will be able to afford it. But maybe that’s not even necessary, since studies suggest that farmers can increase their profits by converting to regenerative practices.
Why Should We Fix our Emissions if China Won't? Farming with regenerative practices is better for farmers even if we put aside the climate benefits. I also argue that we shouldn’t put off saving humanity since another country isn’t saving humanity fast enough.
What is Government's Role in Reversing Climate Change with the Food System? The business sector is likely to do the heavy lifting in the transition of the food system toward our future carbon net zero economy. But we need governments to to create a level playing field, and to create the environment in which private businesses can transition our food system to be a lever to reverse climate change.
The Revolution is Underway. A Call to Arms! The way we eat is changing. We are in the early days of the revolution. The revolution will result in a future food system that helps reverse climate change. The revolution will be an extraordinary opportunity for entrepreneurs, for startup investors, and also for thoughtful and progressive Big Food companies. The winners will do well and do good. The businesses that fail to change will become roadkill.
Do we really need wine? Yes we do! Wine grown regeneratively can draw down more carbon than it releases, so it is your patriotic duty to consume such wines! This editions highlights some great wines from a taste and climate perspective.
Say Cheese! Cheese has a big carbon footprint, but not all cheese are equal. This edition of the newsletter catalogues the different ways that innovative cheesemakers are attacking their carbon emissions.
Thanks for being part of this movement. I’m grateful for you!
